Gavis Moreno

On 27th March 2018, human right defender and social leader Gavis Moreno was killed along with her chauffeur by a group of assailants in Guayaquil located in the capital Quito.

Gavis was shot several times by a group of armed assailant while she was coming from her work. Gavis was an Afro-descendant woman, a human rights defender and a feminist. In addition, she was member of Colectivo Mujeres Asfalto an NGO whose objective is to fight for the rehabilitation of women in jail in Guayaquil. Gavis worked hard for the transformation of this centre and for the dignity of those women. She had developed projects using urban art as tool to empower and rehabilitate those women in jail. She had also established a beauty parlour in the prison to help women recover their confidence and their dignity.
