Gledyson Carvalho

On 07 August 2015, two unknown people, burst into the radio station called “Liberdade FM” located in the Municipality of Camocim, in Ceara state, and shot Gledyson Carvalho, who died on his way to hospital.

Gledyson Carvalho, 33, known to some as “Amigão”  was a Brazilian radio broadcaster.

The leader had received threats, however according to the  G1 news agency called G1, Gledyson was fearless and and had said this several times during his radio talk shows.

Like others journalists who were murdered in 2015 (like Djalma Santos da Conceição, Evany José Metzker,  Gerardo Ceferino Servian) in his live shows he discussed cases of corruption, organized crime and human rights violations. The journalist became an easy target for those who were feeling threatened by him.

The Municipality of Camocim issued a statement of sympathy related to Gledyson’s death in which they described him as “one of the powerful voices in the region”.

Between 2000 and 2014, 38 (thirty eight) journalists were killed in Brazil because of their profession.
