Hermes Loaiza Montoya

Hermes Loaiza Montoya was Secretary General of the Junta de Acción Comunal (Community Action Board) – JAC in the community of Pueblo Nuevo  in Florida, Valle del Cauca.

On 31 May, 2020, unknown men arrived at his house asking for him by name. When he went out to speak to them an argument developed during which he was shot dead. When his wife heard the shots she went out to see what was happening and found her husband dead on the ground. There is no record of him having received any threats

One of the main reasons for the series of attacks on members of JAC’s is their involvement in the national programme to promote the substitution of illicit crops.
