Ivo Humberto Bracamonte Quiroz

Forty-two year old Ivo Humberto Bracamonte Quiroz was a community leader and a former councilor in the municipality of Puerto Santander in Norte de Santander.

He was also director of digital news service NPS.

At around 07.30PM on the evening of 19 March 2020, Ivo was working out in a park in the Beltrania neighbourhood, when two men came up to him. One of them produced a gun and shot him several times, killing him instantly.

While the general level of violence in Colombia has dropped the number of attacks on community leaders and human rights defenders continues to grow.

Ivo was the third human rights defender killed in the region in a matter of twenty-four hours.

In terms of general violence Norte de Santander recorded the fifth highest number of murders in the the country in 2020.
