Jairo Beltrán Becerra

Jhon Jairo Beltrán Becerra was a law student and an LGBTI rights activist. He was also a member of the Junta de Acción Comunal – JAC (Community Action Board) in the Candelaria area of Bogotá, where he lived.

Jhon Jairo had previously worked with the police and had started to study law when he retired.

On 13 April, 2020, he was murdered in his apartment in the Las Aguas area of the city where he was found the next day by his mother. He had been tied hands and feet and his body showed signs of torture.

Footage from security cameras in the area show two men arriving at the apartment building, then leaving hurriedly about fifteen minutes later.
