Jayder Esteven Quintana was eighteen years old and a trade unionist. He was a member of the Federación Sindical Unitaria Agropecuaria (Federation of United Farming and Fishing Unions) and the Asociación Nacional de Zonas de Reserva Campesina (National Association of Farming Communities). He was also active in the campaigns of the Proceso de Unidad Popular (Committee for Popular Unity) and Marcha Patriotica in Cauca.
On Saturday 3 October, 2020, Jayder was near a bakery in a commercial centre when an unknown man walked up to him and shot him 9 times, killing him instantly.
Jayder had been taking part in various training programmes to develop his work in the community and some reports suggest that the killing was a reprisal against his father who is a well known and respected leader in the community.
