José Fernando Jaramillo Oquendo

José Fernando Jaramillo Oquendo, member of the Junta de Acción Comunal in Pascuita, was shot several times by a group of armed men presumed to be part of paramilitary groups in the region, who broke into his house at around 1AM on Friday, July 6, 2018.

This happened just 10 days after his brother-in-law, José Abraham García, president of the Junta de Acción Comunal in Pascuita, was also shot dead. Both of them were known for defending the rights of peasant communities, especially those affected by the delays in the government’s illegal-crop substitution programmes.
