José Nelson Tapia Caizamo

José Nelson Tapia Caizamo was an indigenous leader and governor of the Embera community of Villa Blanca Dubasita in the municipality of Medio Baudó, Chocó.

On 6 September, 2020, he was at home with his family when a group of gunmen arrived at his home and dragged him outside. They took him a hundred meters away from the house and shot him dead.

The killing has caused several families to leave the area because of the fear of further attacks.
