Juan Esteban López Mazo

On June 21, 2018, two hitmen shot Juan Esteban López Mazo, a social leader and treasurer of the Community Action Board of the Camelia Baja village in Ituango, Antioquia, in his own home. This Saturday, two people were charged by the Prosecutor’s Office with the crime.

Yinir de Jesús Areiza Orrego and Danny Alejandro Zapata, were taken into preventive detention by the Municipal Court of Ituango. The Prosecutor’s Office charged them with the crimes of aggravated homicide, qualified and aggravated theft and illegal carrying of firearms.

These two people had been arrested hours after the crime, for illegal carrying of weapons. Now, the prosecution claims to have sufficient evidence
to show that they are also responsible for the killing of López Mazo. It is believed that members of the Clan del Golfo are involved in the killing.
