Juan José Roldán Ávila

Juan José Roldán Ávila, a freelance journalist and defender of LGBTI rights, was found dead on 16 April 2017 in the municipality of Calpulalpan, Tlaxcala. His body showed signs of torture and acid had been poured on various parts of his body. The previous 24 February he had complained on Facebook that he had been receiving threats.

Juan José worked as a reporter for a local television station in Calpulalpan until 2011, after which he worked independently reporting for local media. He also campaigned against animal abuse.
