On 5 September 2018, the disappearance of the young activist Leidy Correa Valle, recognized for her activities and social leadership in the Guayabal de Pená village, of that locality in western Antioquia, was reported.
The young woman was acting as secretary of the Community Action Board of this rural area of Peque and her body was found half buried in a hole near her own home.
The local authorities and the community itself expressed their dismay and condemnation of these acts of violence that they described as femmicide, and in a demonstration at night they asked for a quick investigation to clarify the facts and find those responsible. –
“As a Municipal Administration we reject all types of violence that can cause physical and psychological injuries against any person, especially against women. We share the pain of the community of Guayabal de Pená. We accompany their relatives in this moment of pain, ”said the Mayor of Peque, Adalberto Valle David.-
The Colonia de Peque Corporation in Medellín also expressed consternation over the violent death of Leidy Correa Valle, a member of the Community Action Board of the Guayabal de Pená village.
“The Municipal Council of Peque, Antioquia, regrets the murder of Leidy Correa Valle of the Guayabal de Pená village, and expresses to the small community their sense of sympathy and a voice of solidarity … Rejects any violation of freedom, autonomy, integrity , and the lives of women… ”, the Council said in a statement.
“We launched a voice of protest against all acts of violence, both physical and psychological against women, against any person, and we maintain the hope of a change of consciousness oriented towards respect and tolerance towards all people,” wrote the group that represents the residents of Peque in Medellín.
A citizens march, mostly consisting of women, toured the streets of that town to reject this act of violence, demand justice and ask that these femmicides or any act of violence not be repeated in this municipality in western Antioquia.
