For twelve years Luis Gonzalo Hincapié had been president of the Junta de Acción Comunal (Community Action Board) of vereda La Cristalina in El Peñol, Antioquia.
On 3 November, 2020, Luis Gonzalo was working on his farm when armed men arrived and shot him dead. His son was injured in the attack.
