At about 2pm on Saturday, May 25, human rights defender Maricruz Tolvez was murdered Choloma, Cortés.
As reported by the National Network of Human Rights Defenders in Honduras, the defender was at her workplace, a beauty salon located in Residencial Las Cascadas, when unknown subjects burst in and shot her in the head.
Maricruz was part of APOMUH, a member organisation of the National Network of Human Rights Defenders in Honduras, which since 2003 has contributed to the integral development of women in order to improve their living conditions, promoting education and training them in their rights, as well as creating awareness of and campaigning against the violence they face.
IM-Defensoras condemns this horrible crime and demands a thorough and speedy investigation so that it does not remain unpunished .
