Rafael Manotas

Rafael Manotas was a taxi driver and member of the Junta de Accion Comunal – JAC, (Community Action Board) in El Poblado, Córdoba. On the evening of 8 February 2020, he had gone out with some friends when two gunmen arrived on the scene and shot him dead. He was hit four times and died instantly.

Rafael was well known across the region because of his work as a taxi driver as well as his role as a respected community leader. There is no information as to whether he had received any threats.

According to local sources 243 community leaders in Córdoba have received threats and two were killed in the first days of 2020.

Community leaders have e,xpressed concern at the continuing level of violence and the number of killings despite a heavy military and police presence in the area.
