Wilson Arnulfo Quetama Hurtado

Wilson Quetama (33) was one of the founders of the Association for Collective Reparation for Victims of Conflict, (La Asociación para la Reparación Colectiva de Víctimas), in San José De Palmar, Asovicopal.

The goal of the organization was to provide employment opportunities for the victims of the armed conflict in the region so that they can gain financial independence. At the time of Wilson´s murder, over 34 families were participating in the programme.

He was killed on the 8th of April, while participating in the community meeting in the San Francisco district in La Italia village. According to the witnesses, four men came to the meeting and fired their weapons several times and Wilson was shot dead.

The motives of the crime remain unknown. There are claims that the shooting might have been connected to the fact that the farmers’ community of Chocó is in the middle of an armed conflict with the ELN, connected to the programme to substitute illegal crops.
