Libardo Moreno, a 76-year-old prominent social leader, was killed by a group of men on Monday, July 23, 2018. The men knocked on his door asking for help with a flat tire, when Libardo came out to help, one of them shot him to the chest. The men then fled the scene on a motorcycle.
An active member of Junta de Acción Comunal of Las Pilas and the manager of the Jamundí aqueduct, Libardo was recognized by the community as an environmentalist and peacebuilder. He was known for his work with communities in the rural south of Valle del Cauca, a region where armed groups formed by drug trafficking and former FARC networks, work.
