The authorities in the municipality of Armenia, Quindío, still have no clue about the murder of community leader Marco Tulio Grajales Londoño, which took place two weeks ago.
The victim, 62 years old, was working in a patch of corn when he was approached by a hit man who shot him twice without saying a word. Grajales died on the spot.
“He was a respected social leader, and we hadn’t heard of any threats against him, but this is an area with many problems, such as micro-trafficking, and others that my uncle had to deal with every day. We are waiting for the authorities to inform us what happened,” said Geovany Zambrano, nephew of Marco Tulio.
“He worked hard to help his neighbours, the people of the neighbourhood”, his nephew added. “He also managed various raffles and collections for the Christmas bonuses of December. He was a humble person and very committed to the community.”
Marco Tulio was a candidate for Mayor of Commune 10 in the last elections. He had said that in 2019 that he would stand as a candidate for the Mais Indigenous and Social Alternative Movement to be elected mayor of his community.
