Israel Fajardo died on 27th of March 2018 in the La Palma district in La Macarena. He was 81.

He was a leader of the first Junta de Acción Communcal in the El Palmar district.

According to the secretary of the government of Meta, Israel Fajardo was handling a gun and accidentally shot himself in the head.

However, the counsellor of la Confederación Nacional de Acción Comunal claims that Israel was murdered.

In the La Macarena region, there are still present residual groups of the FARC. He also added that leaders and activists are afraid to talk openly due to the presence of these armed groups, which are forcing the local community to keep cultivating coke crops.
