Carlos Enrique Ruíz Escárraga was killed by the members of paramilitary group”BACRIM-opción al paramilitarismo . The death of the student and community leader happened after the circulation of leaflets by the group, which stated that certain people found on the streets would be killed, under the premise of “cleansing” bad people from the community.
The paramilitary group defined the target of “social cleansing” as “immoral people, thieves and queers” who frequented bars, nightclubs and billiard halls. The Collective of which Carlos was a member, is a student space for popular journalism and culture.
He was found dead with several bullet wounds.
