Human rights defender Flower Jair Trompeta was murdered on 28 October in Corinto, Cauca.
According to his family and peasant communities in Corinto, Flower Jair was detained by members of the army, who tortured him and then killed him.
The authorities in the area had a different version of events and stated that Flower Jair had been caught in crossfire between the army and Farc dissidents who operate in the area.
Deivin Hurtado, human rights defender and activist from the National Federation of Agricultural Farming Unions (Fensuagro), explained that the young man had been detained by uniformed men in the morning in La Laguna. He noted that the victim was not subversive and that he was a member of a peasant workers association. “This person was not in uniform, did not have weapons at the time of his murder and there was no confrontation”, he added.
Flower Jair was a member of the Caloto Peasant Reserve Pro-Constitution Areas Workers Association – ASTRAZONACAL.
