Alejandro Jacanamejoy, community leader, was shot to death on Thursday, August 9, 2018. The circumstances of his murder remain unknown. In an area known to be under siege by armed groups linked to drug trafficking networks, other community members are afraid to get involved.
Alejandro was president of the Junta de Acción Comunal of vereda La Paz. He was known for his work promoting the implementation of the Peace Agreement between the government and the FARC. Alejandro was a beneficiary of the government’s illegal-crop substitution program, Plan Nacional Integral de Sustitución de Cultivos de Uso Ilícito (PNIS).
