“[Carlito] Sawad, age 54, a Dibabawon lumad, is a member of Nagkahiusang Mag-uuma ug Lumad sa Veruela (NAMALUVER) and former First Councilor of their village Brgy. Aguinaldo, Laak, Compostela Valley. He was shot dead by a riding-in-tandem gunmen believed to be agents of 60th IBPA in Brgy. Aguinaldo. Sawad’s two-year-old grandchild was also slightly injured as a bullet grazed his head, and his son-in-law, Joven Carmilotes Corbo, age 42, was hit in the knee.
Namaluver had been tagged by the 60th Infantry Battalion occupying their area as NPA supporters. Sawad had earlier been warned by his village chief that soldiers would be arresting suspected ‘NPA supporters’ and forced Namaluver members to “surrender” as NPA members or supporters.”
