Héctor David Xoy Ajulip (35) was a member of the Services Workers Union (GFLG) and Limited Company (SITRAGFLG) and worked for the transnational company Pepsico.
Héctor worked as a delivery driver. According to reports, on the 6 May 2020, he was abducted by hitmen while driving his route and taken to wooded area and shot a number of times.
Attacks against members of unions groups have increased exponentially in Guatemala in recent years. This situation has led to union groups from Guatemala to formally inform the Director of the International Labour Department of the International Labour Organization (ILO).
Jordán Rodas Andrade, Prosecutor of Human Rights (OHCHR) in Guatemala, condemned the murder of Héctor David. In a statement he reminded the State of Guatemala the responsibility to guarantee the right to life, freedom, justice and security. He also reminded the company he was working for their duty to adopt all the measures necessary to ensure the life, security and health of their workers.
