Hernando José Molina was one of the signatories of the 2006 Peace Agreement and a member of the Associación de Mineros de Montecristo (Association of Miners of Montecristo) in the state of Bolívar.
On 7 August, 2020, he was shot dead as he was having a meal with friends in Minapiojo, a remote rural area of Bolívar. He left the table to go to the bathroom when he was approached by the gunman who shot him once in the head. He died immediately.
It is believed that the killing was carried out by members of the ELN.
