On 06 October, 2018, Jaime Alirio Becerra Chindoy and two other teenagers (Elkin Farit Sigindioy Chindoy and  Armando Mutumbajoy Muchavisoy)  were killed by unknown people. They were members of the indigenous community called “Oso Cocha-Yunguillo” in Mocoa-Putumayo Municipality.

The teenagers’ lifeless bodies were found, two days later, at the edge of a public road, next to burnt out motorcycles, which allegedly were used to transport the bodies.

According to the National Indigenous Organisation of Colombia, “ONIC”, the indigenous community (the “Pueblo Inga”) is almost extinct due to the armed conflict, drug trafficking, mining, oil exploitation and illegal logging. These people have been struggling to defend their rights, including the right to remain in their territory.

According to police spokesperson, Edilberto García, ” we regret what happened and there is already a special unit set up to handle this case and to identify those responsible.
