On the 27th of November former president of Manila Mining Corporation Worker’s Union, former Caraga chairperson of Kilusand Mayo Uni and Anakpawis party-list coordinator, Linus “Bebot” Cubol, was killed after being shot five times in his furniture store in Santiago Agusan del Norte by two assailants on a motorcycle.
One week before Cubol was killed, it was reported that he was threatened and intimidated by members of the 29th Infantry Battalion Philippine Army.
It is reported that Cubol was targeted due to his long-standing history and continued work within labour and multi-sectoral reforms. Cubol’s dedication to workers rights continued even after choosing to focus on his furniture store from which he would participate in consultations with workers seeking advice on varied labour concerns and issues.
