Two activists — Jesús Orlando Grueso Obregón and Jhonatan Cundumí Anchino were killed in the evening of the 9th of February 2018 in Guapi, a town located on the Pacific Coast of the Cauca Department in Columbia. They were shot 10 and 11 times respectively by a group of armed men.
Both Jesús Orlando and Jhonatan were members of the several organizations: MOEP (Movimiento Étnico y Popular del Pacifico), COCCAM (Coordinadora Nacional de Cultivadores de Coca, Amapola y Marihuana) and Social Marcha Patriótica en el Departamento del Cauca. They were advocates of gradual and voluntary replacement of the cultivation of illegal crops, as specified in the 4th part of the Habana Agreement.
Jhonatan Centeno from Marcha Patriótica says that both men had previously received death threats and no protective measures were taken by the authorities.
It has been indicated that the ELN is responsible for this double murder. The case is still being investigated by the police.
