On 6 July 2019, the social leader Manuel Osuna Tapias was murdered in El Cerro de San José de Uré in the south of Córdoba.
Manuel, 67, was found with his throat cut in his house, which had been set on fire. It appears that the Bloque Virgilio Peralta Arenas, which are part of the criminal gang known as Los Caparros are responsible for the murder. This group is currently disputing control of this area. This murder comes not long after that of social leader María del Pilar Hurtado, who also died in Córdoba on 21 June.
Manuel worked with the Association of Peasants of the South of Córdoba (ASCSUCOR), an organization which has seen 8 of its leaders murdered since the start of the year. Manuel worked on crop substitution and on land rights.
