Nidio Dávila was a social leader in his community of El Rosario and a member of the Association of Campesino Workers of Nariño. He held meetings with peasants where they discussed the peace agreement between the government and the FARC. The last meeting he organized was at the beginning of July.
Dávila was murdered on August 6 2017 for his promotion of the replacement of illicit crops. He had received threats before which had been reported to the government, however, no action was ever taken, according to David Florez leader of Marcha Patriotica.
Witnesses state that a group of armed men, the AGC, came to Dávila’s door and demanded that he pay a tax for the crops, however, when he refused they abducted him. The paramilitary group publicly executed him by gunshot and then threw his body in the Verde River. His murder was to be an example to others who opposed them or tried to halt their work.
