Holman Mamian was a member of ASOINCA and a teacher at the Santa Rita agricultural educational institution, in the municipality of La Vega, Cauca. The attack took place on 12 June 2018, when Mamian was heading to the workplace, when he was approached by men who pulled out guns and shot him dead.

According to Mario Daza, director of ASOINCA, Mamian was engaged in union work on behalf of the organization, which is why he believes that his murder may be related to his social activism. In addition, he pointed out that these types of attacks have become systematic in Cauca, «we see how social leaders and peasants are still murdered, without the national government or the departmental government taking any serious action.»
