Before his death, Faustino Acevedo GAitán was the president-elect of the Asociación de Juntas de Acción Comunal (ASOCOMUNAL) and a community leader of El Morro. He was killed when some still unknown people shot him three times in the head.
Since 2012, Faustino has received multiple threats from criminal groups in his region. He even was the target of an earlier shooting attempt in 2013.
During his life, Faustino defended workers’ and community rights; because of this, he had a great reputation and was well respected by the people who knew him.
