President of the Communist Party of Brazil (PCdoB) of São Domingos do Araguaia, Pará, and peasant leader, Luis Antonio Bonfim was victim of a brutal execution while buying bread at a bakery in his city. Around 6.00 am on the 12th February 2016, two motorcyclists arrived at the scene and fired six shots at Luiz’s head. The assailants fled shortly after the crime and were not identified.
Luiz Antônio Bonfim, known as Luiz “Dentist”, was at the head of an occupation of landless people in the Tabocão region, in Brejo Grande do Araguaia (Pará) and a defender of land rights.
He struggled against the expropriation of large tracks of land on the area and for agrarian reform in the region.
