On the 29th of November 2017, 64-year-old Moreno Lando of Agusan Del Sur, in the south eastern Philippines, was shot dead by 13 armed security guards and two suspected goons on behalf of Filipinas Palm Oil Plantation Inc. (FFPI).
Moreno Lando himself was a worker of FFPI and member of Agrarian Reform Beneficiary (ARB) that sought to return the lands seized under the Duterte’s administration back to the land owners and works.
Much of the land seized is used in Palm oil fabrication which has known environmentally deleterious effects.
Moreno Lando is one of hundreds of peasant land reform activists that has been killed under the Duterte’s administration that leaves these sorts of killings without resolution.
