Rajendra Prasad Singh

Rajendra Prasad Singh, a marginal farmer, spent the last ten years of his life as a popular RTI (Right to Information) activist in East Champaran, India. He used the country’s Right to Information Act to file requests for transparency, thus exposing various irregularities in block offices, banks, police stations and other institutions. The sixty-year-old was shot dead by two unidentified gunmen on 19 June, 2018. Family members of Rajendra Prasad Singh claimed that four attempts were made on his life during the last five years.

Police sources also added that the RTI activist had lodged over a dozen cases against different persons including local government, police officers and bankers. Five people stand accused of the murder and one arrest has been made.
