Jerson Henry Noé Suárez

On 13 July, 2020, the Secretary of the Labour Defense Union of Civil Construction Workers of the Province of Sullana, Jerson Henry Noé Suárez, was shot dead.

The gunmen fired 8 shots at Noé Suárez, who was killed while he was at the Waste water Treatment Plant site, in the Loma de Teodomiro sector, in the province of Sullana.

At least 4 gunmen arrived on motor bikes and proceeded to open fire before fleeing the scene. The killing took place just a short distance away from a major army barracks, yet the gunmen were able to drive up to the plant and drive away without any difficulty.

The union leader, who was also president of the Collegiate Front for the Defense of the Rights and Interests of the Province of Sullana, formed in 2017 by civil society, was transferred to Sullana Support Hospital II, where he died approximately one hour later.

The general secretary of the Federation of Civil Construction Workers of Peru (FTCCP), Luis Villanueva Carbajal, denounced that the civil construction mafias in Piura were the authors of the crime. Between 2011 and 2021 at least twenty workers have been killed by the mafias who are trying to gain control of the water treatment sector in Sullana.
