Social leader Álvaro Pérez (54) was killed on the 4.04.2018 highway while driving a truck in Tibú municipality. He was stopped by armed men and shot dead. His cousin, who was in the truck with him was hurt as well, but survived the attack.
Pérez was a member of the Acociación Campesina (ASCAMCAT) in Catatumbo. He had a great track record of community work in the region.
Local police announced that the attackers escaped from the crime scene without leaving fingerprints. The case is still being investigated and no arrests have been made so far.
