On the 23rd of November 2017, 53 year-year old, peasant leader Vivencio Sahay was gunned down by an unknown assailant in the region of Agusan del Norte in the Philippines.
Sahay was a chairperson of Unyon sa Mag-uuma sa Agusan del Norte, a local peasant organization affiliated with the Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas.
Sahay’s death occurred within a climate of state military aggression against union leaders and human rights defenders within the Philippines under the Duterte administration.
