José Ernesto Rodríguez Córdoba was a community leader and member of the Junta de Acción Comunal (Community Action Board) in the community of Paola Isabel in Samaniego, Nariño.
José Ernesto was well known and respected for his work to improve living standards for the whole community.
On 16 June, 2020 he w as at home in a rural part of Samaniego when gunmen burst into his home and shot him dead. A relative of his, teacher Hernando Rodríguez, who was in the house at the time of the attack was also killed.
In that same week a total of 6 people were killed in Samaniego.
