Evelio Obando Ocampo, was the President of the Junta de Acción Comunal de la Vereda El Placero, and he was killed on March the 11th of 2014. The criminal band that set fire to him « Los Urabeños » had already threatened Evelio the week before his killing.
Evelio was also a member of the Liberal Party of Colombia. Los Urabeños asked him for $25,000 USD and prohibited him from participating in political campaigns, just 3 weeks before the elections. After killing Evelio the killers left leaflets beside the body threatening to kill other members of the community if they did not leave the area.
Other leaders of the village, also suffered from threats after the death of Evelio.
