Gentil Pasos Lizcano was a leader in the peasant community of vereda El Puente in Algeciras, Huila. He was also president of the Junta de Acción Comunal (Community Action Board), JAC.
At 07.30pm on the evening of 4 July, 2020, Gentil was in a shop near his home when he was approached by unknown men who shot him several times. He died immediately and according to his family he had not mentioned receiving any threats.
Gentil worked as a builder and was well respected for his work to defend the rights of peasant communities. He was the third community leader killed in the area in a matter of 4 days.
