Hernando Murillo Armijo, community leader, was shot dead by three masked men on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 around 11PM. The men entered his house and after shooting his son, they chased Hernando to the roof and shot him several times.
Hernando had been president of the Junta de Acción Comunal (JAC) of Vereda Agüita, Santa Cecilia, Pueblo Rico, Risaralda from 2012 to 2016. He was also known for leading several social processes for the afro descendant community. Despite him not being on the JAC anymore, he continued to attend meetings and served as advisor for the new board.
Risaralda is currently being disputed by armed groups, like guerrilla and paramilitary, who want to gain control of the lucrative illegal mining business in the region between Risaralda and Chocó.
