Seyed Jamal Hosseini was found dead in his house on Monday, August 4, 2014. The circumstances of his death were never clarified, but there were traces of blood in several rooms of his house and on his face.
He was the editor in chief of Human Rights Activist News Agency (HRANA), that aims to defend the rights of religious and ethnic minorities in Iran. He was also the co-founder of Human Rights Activists in Iran (HRAI). He was among the first Iranians who used the internet as means of communication to criticise the Iranian regime. In addition, he was part of Iran’s protest movement. As a young man, Jamal came to believe that the Iranian people could only be free by fighting against injustice, oppression and the lack of human rights.
Being an Iranian refugee in Turkey, Jamal continued the struggle for human rights using the internet to fight for the rights of those Iranians back home.
