On 26 October 2018, Wilson Chaustre Parada, 43, leader of « Junta de Acción Comunal (JAC) de la vereda Casa de Zinc del pueblo », was murdered in his farm called « Los Mangos », located in the Municipality of Pueblo Bello, in Cesar department.
On that day, Wilson had left his house to work on his farm, however, at approximately 5:30, his relatives heard shots and noticed that he hadn’t come back. When they found him, his body was lifeless. He had been shot.
His sister, Mairelys Chaustre, claimed that Wilson had been threatened several times, although he never reported it to authorities. Moreover, she issued a statement emphasizing her brother’s role among the community itself:
“The community loved him very much because he ran it, that’s why he was threatened. He received several threatening phone calls in which they used to tell him that if he didn’t stop his community work they would kill him and the community would soon run out of leaders. He didn’t report the threats to the authorities. He had been president of the JAC for three and a half years and the threats had happened since the beginning of his administration ».
